*Sighs a bit more loudly*
On a positive note, I’ve found a great indy.

But VW says you can go to 10,000 miles prior to oil change given the full synthetic. (I may have waited that long for the first change, can’t remember, but have been on every 5k since for sure, so I’m not criticizing the choice to change more frequently.)
Have you looked to see where the oil leak is? Sorry about your bad automotive luck.

When I was basically doing straight highway miles in the 3, I was doing 10k per change. Now that I don’t I’m down to 7500.

The leak is more of a seep, the oil level was fine. From everything I’ve gathered, the 10k miles were added when they cheapened their service plans .

I think that 7, 500 is reasonable for many cars, based on very little knowledge . It really should be based on oil samples being tested by a lab if one wants to go full OCD.
I do every 5, 000 because of the autocrossing and, um, “spirited” driving on a fairly regular basis. Plus, turbo.

Seep from where, tho?
I’m inclined to assume service plan cheapness also, along with wanting to present a low cost of ownership for those who look at that. I believe that full synthetic should be able to last longer, but I’m not buying 10k miles.

Jesus, oil issues under 10k miles.
That is terrible, hope it gets better.

I’m not too worried about the lab test, I’m confident that modern synthetics can handle that duration. Additionally , I don’t have a turbo.

Oil pan. There is residue on an actuator under the engine cover, and if had have had an oil change previously it might be a non-issue, but... It hasn't.

Ugh. Makes me wonder about mine.

Possibly a stretch, but I was furious when we first got the beetle because it was leaking oil. Turns out there is a gasket on the drain plug that needs to be replaced (theoretically with every oil change) and it was causing the leak/seep. All was good with a dealer performed oil change.
Any chance that’s the solution?

I dunno. The oil hasn’t been changed yet though.

Maybe it’s not seated correctly or something? Fingers crossed for something easy

That’s some shit. You don’t get free oil changes for a bit when you buy a new VW? That said, it’s probably better that an independent mechanic saw it. Who knows if the dealership would have told you about a leak on a basically new car.
Hope it's something super simple and not a leak at all!

Answer is no. Mk7 Golfs all use the same (non reusable) plastic drain plug.

Can you send a photo of the leak? How would a leak from the pan show up under the top of the engine cover? This seems odd.

Volkswagen am I right?

Oof, sorry man. Hope it's minor and that VW won't be difficult.

Free oil changes are not automatic. I negotiated them into my deal . . . But that was only 3 due to the claimed 10k mile interval. I went elsewhere for intermediate changes.
I had the same thought . . . I wonder if mine had a similar leak that the dealer never told me about.

Luckily someone else found it, and the dealer can’t cover it up.

Two separate causes. They aren’t related. The wet part up top is just residue.

What's the break in period on these?

1000 miles, but break in oil isn’t really a thing anymore.
